First Christmas

Anjali got showered with attention from three great-grandparents, two grandparents, two uncles and various friends and neighbors while visiting the Kalias in Houston for Christmas. She had a lovely time.

Wreaking havoc

Anjali's new favorite activities are pulling things out of drawers, pushing things off tables, and overturning everything in sight. It is amazing how much destruction a not-quite-one-year-old can accomplish.

Tahoe trip

We just came back from Tahoe where we got caught in the first blizzard of the season. Anjali didn't like the freezing snow blowing in her face but she loved the kids play area in Harrahs!

Pushing the lawnmower

Anjali is now stumbling around with her little push toy. She can't steer very well and she gets tired but it's fun to watch!

She just got her third tooth - this one is on the top right.

Latest activities:

  • eating a strawberry like an apple
  • turning on and off lights
  • unrolling toilet paper and throwing it around the bathroom

anja-bee

anjali was a buzzy bee for halloween. she didn't think much of the outfit, and she hated the little cap with antennas on it - but halloween with a baby is really for the adults anyway. we just paraded her around and then ate her candy.

bath time!

anjali is really funny in the bath. instead of splashing and playing with rubber duckies as you may expect, she just likes collecting washcloths and attempting to climb out of her tub.
it's still pretty cute though...

clapping her hands
trying to 'feed' us
getting on her knees and launching herself forward in a dramatic nosedive

weekend away in the mountains

this weekend we went to boulder creek, a small town in the santa cruz mountains. anjali loved hiking among the giant redwoods. not that she did much hiking.

no more baby food?

anjali has decided that she is too grown-up to be fed mushy baby food from a spoon. this means that mommy must chop up healthy foods into tiny little pieces for anjali to smear all over her face and floor. like this:

Giggles

Anjali loves playing with her daddy.

Crawling!

It doesn't look pretty or easy, but Anjali can now get around on her own steam! She likes to crawl underneath dining room chairs, sit on laptops and pull electrical cords. We now have to watch her like a HAWK!

Sun, sea, and sand

We just came back from the North Shore of Oahu where Anjali ate lots of sand...

... played in the beautiful warm ocean ...

... and hiked along the coast

Now she is proto-crawling: slithering and bumping her way across the room!

Dinner time and play time

Bath time is becoming more fun now that Anjali can sit up!

She loves her new high chair

Standing, sitting, and eating!

Anjali loves standing up at her new music table.

Anjali has been trying lots of different kinds of foods, and she loves mango, sweet potato, and her grandma Kalia's dahl!

Now she can sit unsupported. This makes playing much more fun for her.

Here is Anjali at her friend Anna's first birthday party.

Gold Country weekend, 4th of July and Anjali's baptism

Anjali's baptism: Despite the uncomfortable outfit, being dunked with water and coated in special oil, she didn't even cry!

Summer!

We are enjoying the sunny California weather and getting outside a lot. We went to the Gold Country at the end of June, and Anjali had her first dip in a mountain lake. She is now starting to babble, and is getting better at scooting around.

Beach baby!

New home!

This month we moved to our new house in Mountain View and we are all enjoying the sunny weather, the extra space and the shorter commute. Anjali's new developments this month include rolling over (both front to back and back to front), sitting wobbly tripod-style, and starting solids.

Exploring the country

In April Anjali racked up her fair share of frequent flier miles, with trips to Minnesota and Houston. In Houston she met two of her great-grandparents for the first time and got to see her Kalia grandparents dance a mean tango. In Minnesota she saw her first snowfall, spent some time with her great-aunt Debbie and great-uncle George, and saw the wedding of Al and Jessica Mendoza.

Getting ready for the Mendoza wedding in Saint Paul.

Not even two feet tall but looking like she wants to walk!

Ten weeks along...

During the last couple of weeks Anjali has started grabbing at things - including taking fistfuls of mommy's hair in a vice-like grip - and laughing at things like daddy's dancing (who wouldn't?). She has also started tentatively enjoying bathtime, and sometimes sleeps through the night!
Mommy encourages her to get strong by giving her daily baby boot camp workouts...

... while daddy helps her refine her couch potato skills!

Smiles, football teams and st paddys gear

Weighing over ten pounds and measuring almost two feet long, Anjali is growing well but is still only a very tiny human. She smiles now when you play with her but she quickly gets tired of playing. She will never say no to a snack though, and she loves being cuddled and rocked. Her favorite toys are her swing and her ladybug mobile.

coincidentally supporting the exact same team as her daddy!

Angry baby and happy baby

Anjali can sometimes be a little grumpy...

... and at other times very giggly!
